7/9/20 Though I have never met Faith in person, I have known her for many years. I have a small, but effective non-profit dog rescue, and there are always... read more those one or two cases where one just needs additional help. I had attempted to form a working relationship with several other trainers/behaviorists prior to meeting Faith, and they either snubbed me or lacked follow-though. Faith did not do that. Faith was SO willing to help me – she loves the rescue movement and wants to make herself available to help dogs in most need. On several occasions, I have been able to phone Faith to get her input and advice and each and every time, she is very warm, concerned, and caring. One of the main ways that Faith has been my best resource is after a dog gets adopted, and the dog is now in his or her adoptive home. The issues that often arise, whereby your average family or “layperson” does not always have that “natural ability” to effectively raise their canine kid to be the “best citizen,” or, they encounter some behavioral problems along the way, they then need some additional help and support. Adopters often feel overwhelmed, and thus conclude: “This adoption is not working out.” Oftentimes, these “issues” arise even years later! They reach out to me with these problems, with the implication that they may even return the dog! In such cases, Faith is always willing to help me (and them) by way of a phone consult directly with the adopters. To cite two recent cases, there was Charlie, who had become “entitled,” in his new home and had begun to show some “aggressive and pushy” behaviors. Since there were young kids in the home, there was a concern. Faith, by way of one (but thorough and extensive) phone consult, was able to “reign things back in,” with suggested ideologies and structured strategies, and the family followed through. I soon-after heard that “Things have returned back to normal!” A huge relief! There was also Eli, who had actually been adopted eight years prior! The gal had gotten married and Eli had begun to show some reactive/aggressive behaviors toward her new husband. Faith also did an extensive phone consult in this case. She was able to help the wife understand how Eli felt in his changed environment, and also help the husband change his point of view and increase his level of involvement. Later, I also heard, “Problem solved!” so another success! Faith also makes a point of calling me afterwards to provide information sharing of the interactions. Faith, as a resource, is a huge stress relief for me. People often feel so frustrated; they do not know where to turn. And the suggestion of “returning the dog” is a huge stressor for me, as a rescuer, not to mention the future prospects for the poor dog! When people know that someone is in their corner; i.e., someone who will support and help them, they feel a weight come off, and see that “light at the end of the tunnel.” I am very grateful to Faith for our long friendship and for the help that she has always been willing to provide!
